 | As the train trudged along the country side, MI blaring Anoti on his beats by dre headphones, looking fly in a Paul Smith shirt, a tweed jacket and watching the last episode of Episodes on the BBC Iplayer app, he couldn't help but reminisce about how far he had come. Anoti Anoti Elele ! His journey had not been easy. He is sitting on a virgin train going from Glasgow to Birmingham, in a few minutes he will be presenting plans for a £2m project he would be managing to a group of investors ! He smiles to himself. He calls his story a Murphy's crawl; "If your life can be miserable for whatever reason, be rest assured it will be, and at the worst possible time". He remembers his first train journey, from Abule Egba to Oshodi. The dusty metal crushing the rail track, noisy dusty, rickety and bad, but moving, market women sleeping and snoring, Aboki traders snorting and smiling, area boys and touts smoking and shaking down anyone they could. He had an interview in Ikeja and crazy cousin had convinced him taking the train was the best way to get to Ikeja on time. So here he was, in a suit and a tie on a train in Lagos. (TBC)
PS : That’s pure fiction, but my story is quite similar. |
