 | I’m a recent graduate from The College of Art and Design. I have a masters degree in illustration and lot’s of projects I’m now ready to move forward with.
I’m originally from Durham, NC. After high school I joined the Navy where I worked in IT and communications. After the Navy I worked overseas in places like Turkey and Bosnia.
While living in Bosnia (Tusla area), my 8 month old son developed terrible asthma due to the very poor air quality there. During the summer months it was fine, but we soon found out that people regularly burned plastic and pretty much anything they could find during the winter to understandably stay warm and cook meals.
I had been to many places around the world including China where air quality was bad, but I had never been somewhere that you could not see your hand in front of your face due to the density of the smog- on a regular basis. That's when I decided it was time to find a new profession, one that I was passionate about.
So I returned home to the states, went to SCAD, and was prepared to start a teaching career after graduating, when my son (13 at the time), developed Osteosarcoma- a type of bone cancer. So we dropped everything and moved back to Durham, NC, where my family and support system had remained. My son finished treatment a little over a year ago as is doing marvelously! I've finished my degree and have come to realize that working on freelance projects and teaching is great, but I would much rather put my energy into something that is truly meaningful and can actually make a difference.
That’s why I’m now launching Sequester. I believe we must have a conversation about the environment, one that exists across all boundaries that shows not tells the impacts on the planet and the economy.
