Ed Trice is an inventor, artificial intelligence researcher, chess aficionado, and engineer by training. He wrote a chess program at the age of 19, which briefly eclipsed a Master's rating back in 1987. He was the last human being to defeat a Computer World Champion in both the games of checkers and chess. He is mentioned in two books dealing with Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. He owns two world records in Computer Science. His chess game against Grandmaster Sam Reshevsky was voted the 4th best such game in the world in that chess opening. He was of some assistance to the Canadian research team that solved the game of checkers in 2007.
