Born and educated in England, I now lived in the United States, where I've spent most of my life as a writer. Nearly ten years ago I discovered by chance that as many as 90% of the world's alphabets--many of them extraordinarily beautiful, many (to our eyes) extraordinarily strange--are endangered. Ever since, I've been scouring the world for people who can still read and write these remarkable scripts, finding stunning pieces of wood, carving the remarkable endangered scripts in the amazing pieces of wood, and going on the road to exhibit the carvings and explain to people how important it is that minority cultures be respected, and their languages preserved. Most recently, I've been creating games that will allow children and adults in minority cultures to learn or re-learn their own languages, spoken and written, and to introduce those languages to people elsewhere in the world.
